How to Measure Correctly
Measure:
- Width at top, middle, and bottom
- Height at left, center, and right
Use the smallest measurement to determine size. If your opening is noticeably uneven, don’t panic; that’s fixable with shims later.
If your bifold set is replacing an old door, confirm whether the existing trim and jamb are staying; this affects the final fit.
Step 2: Gather the Tools and Hardware
You’ll need:
- Tape measure & pencil
- Power drill or screwdriver
- Level (longer is better here)
- Shims or thin wood/cardboard
- Hammer (for light tapping)
- Bifold hardware kit (often included with the door)
The hardware will include:
- Top track
- Bottom pivot bracket

- Guide pins or rollers
- Intermediate hinges (connecting the two door leaves)
Step 3: Prepare the Opening
Before anything gets mounted, check:

- The side jambs are secure

- Even spacing around the door

Step 9: Install Pulls and Stops
Center and install the pull handle where the two panels meet.
If your track has adjustable stops:
- Set them so the doors park neatly closed
- And don’t drift open on their own
